Friedrich von Borries and his project office do research and work in an interdisciplinary approach concerning questions of design and social development. »As scientists we try to comprehend the world. As designers we try to change this world. That is why we deal with these questions that determine our contemporary situation by designing and researching the matters on hand: global inequality, environmental destruction and climate change, technologies of surveillance and security policies.« Friedrich von Borries, architect and professor for Theory of Design at the Hochschule für bildende Künste (HfbK) in Hamburg, Germany, focuses on designs and presentational processes as well as scientific studies and content mediation.

Within the frame of the research project »Urbane Interventionen« (»urban interventions«) that is supported by the DFG (German Research Foundation), 2013 will see the publication of  »Urbane Interventionen. Hamburg«, which is a continuation of the »Glossar der Interventionen« (»Glossary of Interventions«). Furthermore, for the city of Frankfurt a.M we will continue to work on urban concepts for the future, thematizing »green« living and space. In 2013 we will also continue to pursue the question of sense and purpose in design. In collaboration with Mikael Mikael, we will investigate the real life in the fictive; and also continue to work on the »Weltverbesserungsmaschine« (»machine to improve the world«).
